Aztec Basketball Taking Their Shot at History

This year’s boy’s basketball team is putting Barstow on the map! With their league record of 8-1, things are looking bright for the Aztecs. Their team is constantly scoring in the high 80s and believe it or not, they even broke the 100s! This years boys basketball team is under the direction of Anthony Wiggins, a history teacher here at Barstow High.

The team this year has got the school going wild and when you look into the stands you can sure tell. If a game could be sold out, their games would definitely qualify as one of those games. They have the hope and spirit of the school and community with them in ways that we haven’t seen in a while.

With best friends Christain Taylor and Evander Burns making up more than half the teams points each games, the team sure does lean heavy on the chemistry those two have on the court. Also, with the help of point guard, Isaiah Phelan (who averages 12 points a game) the team is able to work the ball around like a well oiled machine.

As this basketball season enters into its 3rd round around league, the boys have their mind set on finishing strong and coming out with the DSL title. Their mindset going into the end of their season is to stay humble, keep working hard, and to play smart. Their goals as captain Christain Taylor would say would be, “... to take DSL, go far in CIF, and then to state we go..”.

It has been a great year for our boys and we congratulate them on their journey to the top. As they continue this fight to the ring, we wish them nothing but the best in all their future endeavors. Keep chasing boys! The grind never stops!
