Support?
A 17-year-old male student shot two other students at Great Mills High School in Maryland on Tuesday morning before a school resource officer engaged him and stopped the threat, authorities said. This is yet another story we’ve heard about a school shooting and yet, our school does things like have unorganized walkouts. Last week, people walked out of class in “support” for the lives lost in Florida. In reality, it was just a reason to get out of class. It is very disrespectful to say you support something when really you just want to skip class. Lives are still being lost and people are still being injured. It is very, very sad these events are occurring, and our school just wants to skip class. Many didn’t even know why the walkout took place! Other schools walked out, locked arms and stood up for respect of those who lost lives. Our school? Half the people just walked around campus not even having the Florida kids in mind. If we’re going to support something, we have to know what we are supporting, and actually give the Florida kids the respect they deserve; a moment of silence, a locking of arms, something to show respect.
