Softball Slides its Way Into First Place
Congratulations to our Lady Aztecs softball team on securing a spot in first place for the Desert Sky League. Two weeks ago, our Lady Aztecs faced the Silverado Hawks for a fight to secure their place in league play. Both teams beat every other team in the league and when faced against each other, you could definitely feel the suspense and energy from both teams. Our Lady Aztecs lost the first home game against the Hawks, but then came back in both 7th innings to win the final two games 6-5! The Lady Aztecs’ first win on Tuesday was also the Hawks’ first DSL loss since 2014.
The fight was so impeccable. Nunez hit a homerun in the 7th inning to give Silverado a 5-3 lead, but Barstow didn’t give, they prevailed! Barstow countered that with a 2 run hit by Ilina Padilla to tie the game. With 2 outs and the winning run on 3rd base, Inayalena Paopao was up to bat. “The pressure of the game seemed so light once I stepped into the batters box,” Inaya said. Inaya hit a walk off single into the 5-6 gap to end the game with Trinidy Barela as the winning run. The crowd was crazy and the team was hyped!
Congratulations to our Lady Aztecs on securing their spot in first place and for being the team to break the “‘Rado Curse”! Continue to push forward and work hard Lady Aztecs, because this is just the beginning of your story! Good luck to our girls in their future endeavors.
