Golden State

This past weekend, the Barstow Aztec Mock Trial team competed at the Golden State Mock Trial competition. For the entire team, this was an amazing opportunity. Golden State is a state level competition, where the best of California compete against each other. To even be accepted is a huge honor. No team in the High Desert has ever competed at Golden State.

A little background on Mock Trial. A question that is constantly asked is, what is it? In short, it is in its name. It is quite literally a fake (or mock) trial, that is heard in front of a judge in a courtroom, much like a real trial. It is considered a different type of lettering team, an academic team. Instead of a field, the courtroom is the “playing” area. So in terms of sports, the Golden State competition for mock trial, is like CIF and state for other sports.

No high desert team has ever gotten to this state level competition before. Therefore, to get here is a major deal. Now BHS is ranked 18th in the state, rising of hundreds of places, in one weekend.

The team had such a great time. It was an amazing experience. When talking with the coach, Ms. O'neill, she said, “We got to see to the best teams, and how they performed. Overall we learned a lot”
