Anna Kuchison Supreme court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh has joined the long list of men exposed by the #metoo movement. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward in an interview with The Washington Post saying that when she was only 15 she attended a pool party in suburban Maryland in the early 1980s. At this party then 17-year-old Brett Kavanaugh drunkenly pinned her to the bed and attempted to remove her one piece bathing suit while covering her mouth to prevent her from screaming. Documents have revealed that in 2012 Dr. Blasey told her therapist about the traumatic experience, long before Brett Kavanaugh was nominated for Supreme Court Justice. She has also passed a polygraph lie detector examination in August. The retired F.B.I. agent who conducted the examination, Jerry Hanafin, said the results showed “no deception indicated” — in effect, “she was being truthful.” Since Dr. Blasey came forward two more women Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick have also come forward with their own sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh. Most Americans are horrified and outraged about the fact that a rapist is nominated for Supreme Court Justice. However there are some Americans who feel the opposite. They don´t see this as a sexual assault case. They see this as a partisane case of Democrats vs. Republicans. Take the response of beloved conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro who said on the first episode of his new fox and friends show “The manipulative way Democrats have played this entire scenario suggests that this is a political hit, pure and simple, at least from their viewpoint.” Or the smear article published by far right newspaper Breitbart claiming that Dr. Ford's boyfriend coached him on how to lie on a polygraph test And the comments don't look much better. The responses from some of our students are not much better either. “I think she was paid to do say it” says a student Trump supporter. Sadly Kavanaugh is now our supreme court judge and not much more will probably ever come from this case. Many people have forgotten that case was not about whether we should have a Democratic or Republican judge but whether or not we should have a supreme court judge who committed sexual assault.
