Baby, It's Cold Inside
Quick question; While you’re listening to your holiday music, is “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” usually included in that? If so, you might want to take a seat for the next part. Some radio stations and people in general are completely casting this song aside as something adding to the recurring theme of scandalous sexual harassment controversy lately.
Now, in the other corner, the defenders of the Christmas Classic, there are William Shatner, and Deana Martin, daughter of Dean, one of the more popular of the performers of this vintage festive jingle, among others.
The lines in question are as follows; “Say What’s in this drink?”, “I ought to say no, no, no”, and “At least I can say that I tried.”
Some left-wing political viewers see the first line as a reference to him slipping her a Flunitrazepam, or the more commonly term for it, a Roofy. While that would likely be the case if this song were written about people such as Bill Cosby, this is simply her way of saying that the alcoholic content in her drink are a bit stronger than she had anticipated. No roofies involved. Her saying that she should be saying no, no, no is just because although she may not necessarily want to leave, she feels that she must. The “At least I can say that I tried” is just because she knows that her family is likely to ask her why she didn’t come home, and she knows that she can at least honestly say that she tried to leave.
Not every female is a victim. Of course the ones who do suffer from being sexually harassed, or pressured or raped are terrible situations, terrible stories that need not be taken lightly. But this song is just a guy and a girl who are happy being together, and if you really think about it, sadly, the family and neighbors, etc. all the people who she is afraid of not coming home to are more the scoundrels than the guy who honestly just seems to want to spend more time with his special someone. Stop turning every sexual encounter into the man is a pig and the woman is a weak, feeble being who gets taken advantage of.
