Millennials & Gen Z
This generation (millennials- Gen Z) of high schoolers are living in a very different type of world and society than the older generation of parents, even older siblings and this gap tends to create misunderstanding and stress because one cannot understand the other. They can not understand the times each other lived in. Because of this the stress of high school teenagers and young adults tend to be very high as the older generation is trying to shove their ways and traditions down their throats. We have become a very desensitized era of people. We are raised in this day to be very accepting of ALL things and ideas and think with a more “artistic” perspective of things. We are a generation that claims to love being alone yet is on social media with hungry, desperate eyes trying to make an impression and “go viral”. We live in this world of constant attention and connection that even to put our phones down for ten minutes is a struggle and we cannot explain why. The older generation doesn't understand the culture that is being raised up. THey think that a phone is “unnecessary unless you need to make a call” they think that we as “kids” are too “soft” they think we don't know how to work, that we only know how to solve problems on our own or think for ourselves. We are constantly made fun of and looked down upon.
However, graduation rates have raised drastically over the last few decades and many young people are graduating college with their masters only a few years after leaving high school. We are one of the smartest generations the world has ever witnessed. Though we are looked down upon by older generations this generation is currently changing the world.
