Pratt Institute
If you are interested in pursuing an artistic career, Pratt Institute should be your first choice of schools to go to.
Located in New York, Pratt is a private, nonsectarian, urban university that was established in 1887 by Charles Pratt. Pratt is known for having one of the highest ranked programs in architecture, interior design, and industrial design. There are several campuses located around New York; the main campus is in the neighborhood of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, New York. There also multiple historical sites on the campuses, such as the Pratt Institute Library, Engineering Building, and Caroline Ladd Pratt House.
Pratt is divided into 6 schools with more than 28 departments and divisions, with over 22 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate majors. There are several academic schools/divisions that you can be in. Some of them are the: Department of Undergraduate Architecture, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Fashion Design, and Department of the History or Art and Design.
Although it is predominantly an art school, Pratt Institute offers a nice athletic program. There are several varsity teams competing in basketball, track, tennis, cross-country, and volleyball. Pratt’s mascot is called the Cannoneer, which derives from the 19th century cannon that is located near the main campus of the college.
Overall, Pratt Institute is a great college to attend if you would like to study art or be some kind of artist. Even if you don’t want to be an artist, you can still attend the school for other studies if you’d like. With the many majors and programs that the school offers, you can be able to discover and tap into the artistic part of you that you may not even know you had!
