The Loss of Biodiversity in the Panda Population
The loss of biodiversity is a terrible thing, it is the loss of the loss of life or a particular habitat in the world. That means species going extinct in the world, and that is a tragic thing to happen and it all happens because of our careless actions. If we continue to be reckless and continue to destroy habitats for animals, then we can expect to certain species of animals to become extinct.
For example, Pandas, pandas have a very low population with an estimated 1864 of them remaining in the world in 2014. Pandas don't reproduce frequently like other mammals, making it very difficult for them to recover from such low numbers. Now in 2019, they’ve fallen down to about 1114 of them, that’s not very good at all, they’ve lost over 750 pandas in the last 5 years. That's approximately 2.43 pandas a day for the last 5 years.
The only reason that pandas have to face these extinction problems is because of our actions, we’ve destroyed quite a bit of their natural habitat. As you can see in the picture to the right, you see 2 men in a bamboo forest cutting down bamboo. We use bamboo for medicinal purposes, clothes, to build roads, and to make accessories.
Human beings also used hunt pandas for their fur, or nowadays, people even distribute their body parts. They are also accidentally killed by traps set for other animals such as black bears and musk deers. But luckily, in the more recent years poaching laws were set in order to protect pandas and their future.
