Sports
There are many exciting upcoming sports that are going to be happening here at Barstow High School. The sports that are in season right now are volleyball, football, cross country, and girls’ tennis. The coaches and athletes are very excited for their season and hope to come out on top in the end. The football team is currently rebuilding. Although there is some returners, the football team has more underclassmen than upperclassmen. Last year, our boys had a rough season. The one game that did matter though was the Axe Game. They came to put on a show and they were able to bring the Axe back home! Do you think our boys can keep the Axe this year? Come out and watch them on Friday, August 23, 2019 for their opening home game; and, October 25th is the date you want to save for the exciting Axe game!
Last years’ volleyball team shared the league title with Granite Hills. Our girls were headed in a great direction and had a pretty good chance to go far in the playoffs. This year’s team is somewhat rebuilding. They lost both their setters, but with their three returning seniors the coach is confident in the girls’ having a great and fun season.
Playing tennis is easy right? All you have to do is move to the ball, swing the racket, and just keep it in the court. Many people don’t know that tennis is actually really tiring. Playing means they need to have a lot of stamina to even compete in tennis. Our girls had a rough season last year, but they did come close in some games. Coach hopes to have a good season this year. She is excited to see the girls play to their fullest potential, and hopes they have a good time competing with the girls in their league. If anyone think tennis is easy, try coming out for the team!
Cross country is all about running. Most people don’t like to run, but our cross country team has always been good. Last season we had many runners go to CIF and had the chance to compete against the best of the best. They did really good in playoffs and coach Griego has a good feeling about her runners this year.
This fall, all of our coaches and athletes are very excited for their upcoming seasons. We are hoping to have very good competition that will push our athletes to play to their best ability and to their fullest potential.
