Many Countries Responsible for Yemen War Crimes

The U.S, UK, France, and Iran could be held responsible for war crimes. These countries have aided and assisted the commission of violations. The four year Yemen war has claimed the lives of at least 7,290 civilians. UK ministers have said in the past that they can't tell if any civilians ́ deaths have been the result of British bombs or planes, because the coalition does not track their use. The U.S. has argued against stopping arms sales, saying that continuing them is more likely to help limit civilian casualties.

The war has left 80 percent of the population, which is 24 million people, in need of protection. 10 million people rely on food aid to survive. Some of the things that have happened to the Yemen citizens is arbitrary killings and detention, torture, sexual and gender- based violence, air strikes on civilian infratructure, and indiscriminate shelling, snipers, and landmines.

Houthis were responsible for serious violations of humanitarian law. They launched indiscriminate attacks resulting in death and injury of civilians. Houthis sometimes directed attacks against the civilians. They may have used starvation as a method of warfare. A member of the Group of experts said that it is clear that the continuous supply of weapons to the parties that are contributing to the conflict is continuing the suffering of the Yemeni people.
