It affects whether children are able to attend and stay in school, they also might not make any learning progress. Also, education has been identified to reduce violence against children. Studies found that children who were exposed to emotional and physical violence were more likely to have dropped out of school. Studies also found that people who were exposed to sexual and physical abuse in their childhood are more likely to drop out of college.
Physical and emotional abuse are often linked to negative effects on mental and physical health. Children who are abused are more likely to have anxiety and depression. A child that has been sexually or emotionally abused can be lead to commit crimes later in life. Mistreated children have a greater chance of having poor social skills and classroom behavior problems. Studies show that children with special educational needs are more than seven times more likely to suffer physical abuse and neglect. There was a study for sexually abused 7-12 year old girls. It showed that 39% showed academic difficulties, 24% repeated a grade, 15% enrolled in a remedial class, 48% had below average grades, and over 37% showed cognitive ability below 25%.
