Woman in Combat
Many people have different opinions on the topic of women in combat. Some think they shouldn’t be able to be in the military, while others think that they should be able to serve. There are pros and cons to having women in the military. The pros are that having a mixed gender force keeps the military strong. The restriction limits the ability of commanders to pick the most capable person for the job. Allowing women to serve helps with delicate and sensitive jobs not every soldier can do. And it’s easy to recruit and deploy women who are in better shape than men.
The cons are that women are at more of a risk of abuse from the enemies. The men in combat might harass and resent the women. Pregnancy could leave them understaffed and leave the unit with a disproportionate number of women. And women suffer higher injury rates from trying to get in the same physical shape as men. Women are physically smaller than men and can’t handle as much as men, but that shouldn’t stop women from joining the military. As long as someone can meet the standards that qualifies them to join, then they should be able to do the job. They should not ban female soldiers from combat units just because there’s a chance that the male soldiers might sexually assault them.
