Jobs

There are many different job opportunities in the National Football League. Some desire to be live in the action making plays on the field. Others want to be on the sidelines, behind the scenes helping the players, and making the game overall be successful. Some of the opportunities included are: communications, business, social media, engineering, and broadcasting. There are really awesome internships with the NFL. This program with the NFL allows undergraduates and MBA candidates the opportunity to gain exposure, building a network, and plentiful learning experiences. This is a great opportunity and something that many probably never even think about. There is a Junior Rotational Program that provides a two year program with four rotations. This is cool because you can try a little of each and see what you like the best.

The Professional Athletic Trainer Society is a great way to gain experience and get a foot into the National Football League. An internship through PFATS is a great way to gain experience for students looking to get into the NFL as a career, without being a player. This offers professional enhancements, knowledge, skills, and experience while making connections with athletic trainers. For students that want to be a Kinesiology major like myself, this is a great opportunity to be aware of. This allows students to have exposure to the latest and greatest technology and techniques used. Big name organizations like the NFL have an almost limitless budget, so you can use equipment and techniques you may not have the luxury of using when funding is limited. This real internship puts students in a position to see and deal with things they only dreamt of during school. Injuries are hardly ever text book and this real world application while under the eye of top notch experts is unmatched. You get the chance to see what the hours and real life of an athletic trainer is like, which is much more than taping ankles. While this opportunity through PFATs doesn't guarantee you a job with the NFL, it doesn't hurt to have the xperience. It was said that head trainers often lean more closely to internship trainers because they already have an understanding of the demands and day to day needs. This is something that I could easily recommend to other students looking to expand outside of their college majors and transfering into a career.

Like many other departments, the athletic trainers use the time after their teams minicamps to prepare for the training camps. This means moving one medical facility from one place to another, Keep in mind this is not an easy task. This large of a task requires the whole staff to work together, that means having equipment and gear packed and unpacked when at the next location. Norwig says “We take a tremendous amount of tapping supplies and first aid supplies” “There are a number of things that can happen. There's always an athletic trainer so at least one or two of us are on campus all the time. Even on off days somebody is there”. This goes to show that athletic trainers take their job very seriously and take time to acknowledge that they are a big part of the team. Athletic trainers are the overall healthcare coordinator for the team and they depend on you. Being an athletic trainer is not easy as Norwig said there are alot of minor details that come along with this job. They are hardworking folks packing and not forgetting material, lots of paperwork due to keeping medical records up to date and the hours and hours everyday working to make sure that everyone is healthy, strong and safe.
