Travel: Costa Rica

Annalicia Urtiaga

Costa Rica is a country located in Central America, connecting North and South America. It is a prime spot for tourists and traveling needs. It is known for many different exciting spots and tourist attractions for people who love an adventure, such as ziplining, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and so much more.

Two of the top reasons Costa Rica is such an amazing place to visit is the national parks and wildlife. Costa Rica is home to 27 national parks and five percent of the world's biodiversity. Not only are there jungles, but also cloud forests, swamps, coral reefs, and rainforests. One of the most common things to do is to take a hike on protected trails, such as the Tenorio Volcano National Park. If national parks aren’t too exciting to you, there’s more! There are also currently 6 active volcanoes and over 60 dormant or extinct volcanoes in this small Central American country.

If that isn’t enough thrill for you, you could check out other fun activities like walking over a hanging bridge or surfing. You could also go ziplining through Monteverde, this may be one of the top thrill-seeking activities Costa Rica has to offer. With this activity you can fly above the treetops in Monteverde's cloud forest. During this ziplining adventure, you could potentially see monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife that call this beautiful spot home. Although, you could potentially see these wild animals all over, even just on a walk through the park. The capuchin monkey is especially comfortable with approaching a human.

After these exciting experiences, you can enjoy some of Costa Rica’s delicious food. The abundance of rain and sun bring many crops to life such as pineapples, mangoes, papayas, avocados, bananas, and plantains are all part of a traditional costa rican diet. Due to their unique terrain, they grow many crops that are rare in other parts of the world. These rare crops include starfruit, mamon chino, pejibayes, guanabana, mangosteen, and nance. Just remember when you take your trip to Costa Rica to stop at a local fruit stand and take some of these exotic fruits back to your hotel to try them.
