A Trip to Australia

By: Andrea Wittenbarger

Australia is famous for a lot of things, like kangaroos, food, and the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the foods that Australia is known for are chicken parmigiana, sausage, meat pies, vegemite, and pavlova. Australia is also known for its beaches, deserts, and “The Outback”. It’s one of the world’s most highly urbanised countries. It’s known for the attractions of its large cities, like Sydney and Melbourne.

Since Australia is surrounded by water, there are many water activities to do. You can snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef. There are some opportunities for you to dive with Great White Sharks and watch baby sea turtles hatch. There are cruise ships available for you to see the The Kimberley, secluded beaches, and beautiful waterfalls. You could go sailing and island hopping through up to 74 islands. Or visit the Pinnacles Desert, where you can see beautiful limestone pillars.

There are many food related things to do in Australia if you just want to experience all of their delicious food. You can eat dinner under the stars at Uluru. There are food festivals that you can attend in November by the beach in Margaret River. Eat some of the freshest produce in the world in Tasmania. Some of the fresh food that you can get in Tasmania are top-quality seafood, like oysters, sea urchins, and clams. You could also get some crisp apples and raw milk cheeses.

Australia is a very big country, so there are many interesting facts about the country. There are multiple pink lakes in Australia, their names are Spencer Lake, Hutt Lagoon, Lake Retba, and Lake Hillier. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on Earth. It’s also so big that it’s visible from space. Australia has over 10,000 beaches. There’s a mountain named Mt. Disappointment because of the disappointing view from the top. The last fact is that there are more kangaroos than people in Australia.
