Hurricane Dorian

By: Kayden Hoskins

This past Wednesday on August 28th 2019, a Category 2 hurricane struck near the Bahamas and close to Florida.  Although Florida is only hit with heavy winds and rains, the Bahamas has winds of 105 mph, barely any drinking water, and 7 people killed.  The death toll is expected to rise. As we know, Hurricane Dorian is still a Category 2 but is getting weaker day by day. Even though Florida current state isn’t as bad as the Bahama’s current state, they still have some issues.  Over 10,000 people in the state of Florida have lost all power this last Wednesday. Now, it is up to 4,000 individuals. So far in the Bahamas currently, 1,000 homes are destroyed or damaged and have nowhere to go for hiding or shelter.  The hurricane is possible to reach much larger land but let’s not hope it gets that bad. Florida residents are willing to help Bahama residents and are actually pitching in. Hurricane Dorian is now moving off the Florida coast. So hopefully it doesn’t damage anything more since Dorian is getting weaker by the day.  President Trump has responded to this current situation and approves the North Carolina emergency declaration. Now that Hurricane Dorian is getting weaker, we are hoping it doesn’t take any houses or lives. The city of Miami has created 16 drop off locations for you to donate anything towards Bahama residents. Now that the hurricane is moving closer and closer to Florida, there are Medical teams and health kits at the ready for Florida residents who can possibly be affected by this devastating situation.  Make sure to keep Florida and the Bahamas in your prayers for the next couple of days.
