Teacher Spotlight : Mrs. Shiele

By : Isabela Rodriguez

As we all know our wonderful biology and community health teacher Mrs Shiele. Mrs Shiele has been a teacher for seven years now and has been a substitute for 5 of those. She has been at barstow high for all seven of her teaching years. “I originally did not want to be a teacher , I wanted to be a cardiologist.” Mrs Shiele did say her sister had talked her into substitute teaching then later on she grew into becoming a teacher full time. She graduated from Cal State San Bernardino. One advice Mrs Shiele would give to someone who is pursuing a teaching career is that “ if it is truly your passion , follow it and dont listen to others . Keep everything about the kids.” Outside of her job of teaching she is the union’s negotiator and the school site secretary. Mrs Shiele does teach Biology and Community Health, I had to ask what her favorite part about science is and she had to say “ I just love to learn new things and in science your always learning something new.” Shiele said her favorite thing about being a teacher is interacting and watching kids realize their intelligence. But, one thing she doesn't like about teaching is that school starts way to early “ I like to sleep in , I am not a morning person.” Last year Mrs Shiele did have one of her own kids at Barstow High and she said “ It was a lot of fun, I got to see things in a teacher and also a parent's perspective .” She did have him in one of her classes his freshman year. That is our wonderful teacher Mrs. Schiele in room 901 in science building, so go and say hello.
