Travelling to Iceland can be very expensive, but if you plan carefully it can also be pretty affordable. Here are the average prices of some things you would need to spend money on in Iceland. Hotel prices range greatly. The average price for a hotel is $300 per night per room, or if you’re travelling with your family, a family suite is $750 per night. If you don't want to get a hotel room you could get an Airbnb. Airbnbs are usually around $200 per night. You will need to rent a car, so the average station wagon with insurance and unlimited miles costs $1,500 for a week. Food can be expensive or cheap depending on where you go to eat. The average meals cost around $15-$30 per meal. You don't need to buy bottled water because the tap water is really clean, so you can just buy a refillable water bottle and use that. The average price for activities will probably cost you $500 per week.
Some things you should remember before going to Iceland is to always carry around your coat. It may seem warm in one moment, but in the next it could get cold really fast so you will need it. Don’t forget to bring a sleeping mask. The sun is out most of the time so it might be kinda hard to fall asleep for some people. Last but not least, tipping isn’t required, but it's always nice to tip your waiters when you go to a restaurant.
There are many things to do in Iceland, like looking at northern lights or glacier hiking and ice caving. You can go to the Golden Circle and see three major attractions, which are the Pingvellir National Park, Haukadalur Geothermal Valley, and Gullfoss Waterfall. The Gullfoss Waterfall is one of the most popular falls to visit. At the Golden Circle you can go snorkelling and/or snowmobiling.The Golden Circle is a 230 km route to drive on. Some more great things to do in Iceland are going on a whale watching tour in multiple places like Reykjavik, Akureyri, or Husavik. You can go see the Dettifoss Waterfall in North Iceland or you can go horseback riding that lasts around 90 minutes. The Dettifoss Waterfall is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Another place to visit in North Iceland is Lake Myvatn. Go to the Blue Lagoon which is Iceland’s most famous spa. It’s close to the airport, has healing silica mud, and very soothing water. Since it’s Iceland’s most famous spa it is pretty expensive, but there are many more affordable spas in Iceland.
