255. That is the amount of mass shootings that have occurred in 2019 alone. Last week on August 10, A mass shooting happened at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas and over 6 hours later, another mass shooting occurred at Ned Pepper’s Bar in Dayton, Ohio. Two mass shootings, one day. All together, 31 killed and 51 injured. The El Paso shooting is the deadliest mass shooting in 2019 so far. Dayton is a close second. 255. 255 is the amount of mass shootings that have occurred in 2019 thus far. It is day 226 in 2019 and today, is when we should make a change.
On August 10th at around 11 a.m., police responded to a call at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. Shooter killed 22 people and injured 27 people. The suspect for this terrible crime is named Patrick Crusius (21). Patrick supposedly posted a screed online less than 30 minutes before the attack happened. Police is treating this crime as a domestic terrorism case yet they have no idea what Patricks’s motive was. He is currently in custody.
August 10th, same day as the El Paso shooting, at around 1 in the morning, is when 9 people were killed and 27 were injured. The shooting occurred at a bar in Dayton, Ohio. The shooter was a 24 year old male named Conner Betts. He was shot and killed by authorities when they arrived. Conner was wearing body armor and carrying multiple rounds of ammo. Highschool classmates that went to school with Conner claimed that when Conner was in highschool, he got suspended for a supposed hit list and rape list.
Although these two tragedies that happened on Saturday morning were overwhelmingly heartbreaking, people needed answers. 255 mass shootings just this year and not one gun law was changed. Donald Trump made a statement claiming “I will take care of it”. Democratic politicians blame the president for these shooting and not doing anything about the law for gun control. Donald Trump claims he will make a detailed statement soon. So far, nothing has changed for giving these people justice. Gun control laws need to change to make our country a better and safe place.
